Ögmundur Jónasson

Director

Ögmundur is a lifelong advocate for civil society and labour rights, with extensive experience ranging from grassroots activism to leadership in national and international trade unions. He has served on the executive boards of the international labour movement and, as an Icelandic government minister, was responsible for justice and social issues in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis.

In the 1980s, he helped launch a housing movement in Iceland which sparked legislative changes and paved the way for reforms in housing policy. His diverse career, which also includes serving on the board of a large pension fund, has equipped him to make complex decisions that have far-reaching consequences for society.

Ögmundur is driven by the conviction that as market forces become more dominant, a strong counterweight to protect the public interest is vital.
